Coursework and examination results from the semester abroad
According to program and examination guidelines, you must complete two examinations (corresponding to approx. 6 credit points at the University of Konstanz each) and one ungraded course (approx. 3 credit points at the University of Konstanz) during your semester abroad. As a general rule, your partner university will issue you an official transcript of records. If you have not received a transcript of records, you can also provide evidence of your performance by submitting other official documents that describe course title, content, duration (number of semester hours) and type of study or examination performance and assessment. Before commencing your semester abroad, you should discuss your selection of courses and credit eligibility with the program coordinator. To determine eligibility, complete the “Recognition of semester abroad academic performance (BEFORE semester abroad)” form (see downloads page) and submit it to the program coordinator prior to your study abroad.
After your return, you must fill out the “Recognition of semester abroad academic performance (AFTER semester abroad)” form (see downloads page) based on the joint agreement made prior to your study abroad. You should bring this form together with any documentation of academic performance from the partner university to the program coordinator’s office during office hours. The coordinator will review your documentation and eligibility for credit and will help you complete the form. Your grades will also be converted to the German grading system by the program coordinator. You will receive a copy of the certification document, while the original will be sent to the examination office in the Department of Literature, Art and Media Studies. Shortly after that, the credits will be recorded to your personal StudIS account.
Internships
According to program and examination guidelines, internships with a minimum duration of 160 hours are eligible for 6 supplementary credit points. You should consult with a member of the direction and staff team to confirm the eligibility of a specific internship to receive credit. After the internship is completed, you must submit an internship report (approx. 5 pages) and an internship testimonial (or an official confirmation stating the nature and scope of your work) to the KGE coordination office. The easiest way to do this is to come to the coordination office during office hours. The coordinator will help you fill out the credit transfer form and will forward it to the examination office in the Department of Literature, Art and Media Studies. The credits will then be promptly booked to your personal StudIS account.
Study projects
So-called “study projects” are eligible for credit in the supplementary area. This format offers students the opportunity to develop and implement their own projects, with the aim of transferring and gaining (professional) practical experience. Within the framework of study projects, practical activities (e.g. exhibition or theater projects, self-organized workshops, or other events related to program content) can be recognized as academic achievements based on certain conditions and in close consultation with the program’s team or a mentor. Study projects require students to reach an individual agreement on the type of project, subject matter, scope, and the potential for receiving credit with the program’s direction and staff team. This agreement must include a project outline and a short project completion report in order for students to receive credit. The official awarding of credit takes place based on a certification form that is completed by the program coordinator and sent to the examination office in the Department of Literature, Art and Media Studies. Once this form has been submitted, the credits will be booked to the student’s personal StudIS account.
Other coursework from the supplementary area (language courses, transferable skills, etc.)
In individual cases approved by the program coordinator, relevant language courses (completed at the Language Institute at the University of Konstanz) as well as courses from the Centre for Transferable Skills (SQ) may also be eligible for supplementary area credit. After the program coordinator or the direction and staff team has confirmed eligibility, students should forward relevant documentation to the KGE coordination office stating the title, content, scope (semester hours) and type of academic or examination work completed, as well as the number of credit points earned if applicable (a printout from your StudIS account is usually sufficient). The program coordinator will then complete the necessary credit transfer form and forward it to the examination office in the Department of Literature, Art and Media Studies. The credits will then be transferred to the supplementary area of your personal StudIS account.
