The curriculum offers a thorough introduction to the cultural-theoretical and Europe-related foundations of the program, as well as an individual profiling of the course of study. Each student chooses one of three focus areas: narratives, media, and imaginations; social and political dynamics; or theory, critique, and reflection. The individual profile can be supplemented by attending courses from other areas (practical and supplementary modules). Internships, academic projects, language courses and transferrable skills courses can also be counted towards the focus area. Additionally, students take part in regular conversation about issues central to the program and current discourse in the program’s colloquium, Europaparlament. A required semester abroad offers students an additional, outside perspective on Europe. During the program, we guarantee intensive and individual advising in the mentoring meetings (Mentorengesprächen). In the final module, consisting of the master’s thesis, exam colloquium, and a final oral exam, students write a cultural studies research paper as they participate in a master’s colloquium and complete an oral exam.
